Return To Theatre?

So, a continuation of an idea from the shoutbox:

From where I’m sitting, 24-hour play festivals are all the rage. I’ve never been to one, but it seems like everyone I know connected with theatre is in one, or writing for one, or just saw one, or something. It’s like avian flu, only less deadly and less avian.

Julz apparently thinks I should be in one for my birthday. While that weekend is throughly booked due to Emma having a birthday then too, the idea is nonetheless intriguing. Act? Direct? God help me, write? What do you, the viewers at home, think?

Cthulhu Backpack

So we find HP Lovecraft’s burial site, dig up the coffin, crack it open, and attach a turbine to the good man. The power generated by him spinning in his grave should be enough to power a large city for no less than two decades.

Books From Goodwill

Thanks to Emma and her karate class, I spend a fair amount of time in Goodwill. Every couple of weeks (or more frequently) I’ll be wandering though the place killing some time, as it’s in the same strip mall where the do-jang is. I’ve hit on some fine books recently. To wit:

Not a bad list, especially considering most of those titles cost me 50 cents a pop.

Here’s one of the more interesting photos I’ve come across in a while. Nothing like disparate worlds colliding.

UPDATE: I got milk.

Turning back time

Once, some time ago (months, maybe?), I was getting up almost an hour before Julie and getting a moderate amount of exercise in. Nothing groundbreaking, but I was up and moving pretty early. I impressed myself, actually.

Then something happened that threw off my schedule. Maybe it was a weekend trip, maybe it was a kid awake at an odd hour. I forget.

And since, I’ve been getting up late and not stretching or exercising at all. This week, I’m trying ot change that back. My clock had been set early in the fond hopes that I’d pick it right back up (HA!) but this will not be the case. So it seems I’ll be backing up the alarm little by litte each day. So far, on day 1 here, it seems to have gone OK. Not too much time for stretching and such, but I’m up, which is a key prerequisite.

Post-Awkward #1, and The Nicest Things

This weekend was an enjoyable experience with my brother-in-law and his wife, and a non-yelling experience with my in-laws. The former was a very good thing (and something we’ve missed since they were living in London the past fourteen months). The latter was difficult, but acceptable. It’s going to be a while before I can look them in the eye for any length of time, and probably just as long a time before I have to stop biting my tongue in order to keep snarky comebacks in my head and out of the air in front of my face (where I can’t get them back).

If this confuses you, don’t sweat it. This is my issue to deal with.

On the nicer side, both my brother-in-law and his wife separately complimented me and my wife on parenting and living life in stride. I don’t usually feel like Father of The Year or Husband of The Year, but it’s nice to see that SOMEONE thinks I’m doing something right. :)

Hey! Guess What! Big Brother can track every document you print right back to you! Isn’t that great? Doesn’t that make you feel safer?

breakfastfood

e.e. cummings – as freedom is a breakfastfood

as freedom is a breakfastfood
or truth can live with right and wrong
or molehills are from mountains made
-long enough and just so long
will being pay the rent of seem
and genius please the talentgang
and water most encourage flame

as hatracks into peachtrees grow
or hopes dance best on bald men’s hair
and every finger is a toe
and any courage is a fear
-long enough and just so long
will the impure think all things pure
and hornets wail by children stung

or as the seeing are the blind
and robins never welcome spring
nor flatfolk prove their world is round
nor dingsters die at break of dong
and common’s rare and millstones float
-long enough and just so long
tomorrow will not be too late

worms are the words but joy’s the voice
down shall go which and up come who
breasts will be breasts and thighs will be thighs
deeds cannot dream what dreams can do
-time is a tree (this life one leaf)
but love is the sky and i am for you
just so long and long enough
