First Grade

Filed under: Family — steegness @ 12:00 pm

Today, Emma entered her school and went to her first-grade classroom (although we made a brief stop at her locker to drop off her jacket and lunch first). She was pretty excited about the upcoming year, which is quite pleasing. I fear the excitement will fade as homework starts, but such is academic life.

And thus begins another year of school lived through my daughter.

Coffee found to be high in health-giving antioxidants

Yeah, it says fruits and vegetables are still better for you, and that you should only drink one or two cups a day… but to hell with THAT part! Coffee makes you have less cancer! It fights heart disease! It’s better than tomatoes!

New Movies

I walked to the movie store today (much to Julie’s surprise), as we wanted movies to view. I rented Hide And Seek for Julie, Princess of Thieves for Emma (since I didn’t want to get Fairytopia again, and I bought three movies for the collection: Hellboy, Blade: Trinity, and Team America: World Police for myself.

Julie found my choices odd, but I like to be entertained by movies I own; the odds of me buying a drama are low. Something like Hellboy has repeat-viewing value; Million Dollar Baby is a one-trick pony.

Right?

From Don, with seething Vampiric Rage

You scored as Toreador. You belong to the Toreador bloodline. Often regarded as vain or shallow, the Toreador are blessed with a striking, almost supernatural beauty. Toreador are so driven by the pursuit of beauty that they are often highly connected with art, music, or theater. While they do have a uncanny ability to seduce and manipulate mortals, many other vampires simply dismiss them as decadant pretty-boys.

Squadless Kick 2.1 Available

Plugin:mm squadless kick – TacticalWiki

Yeah, I know most of the people reading this won’t care, but I’m proud of it nonetheless.

It’s a ModManager-compatible plugin for Battlefield2 that boots people off the server for not being in a squad (which is pretty key to decent gameplay, actually). I revamped it when I made it ModManager-compatible, and I’m pretty pleased with the results.

So if you don’t care about the code or the game, just be happy that I’m happy. :)

WP 1.5.2

Woo. Almost a Very Bad Thing when upgrading the blog software; important things were thought to be lost. But, if you’re reading this, you can see that things were rectified to satisfaction. Huzzah for that. Phew.

The End Of The Library

CBS News | Bye, Bye, Library

What do you say to something like this?

The books still exist; it’s not as if they burned them or anything. But to take a library full of books and transform it so seems… wrong somehow. I’m nonetheless excited to see where something like this may lead, and I’m quite impressed that it was a state university that pulled the trigger first on this move.

Back in college, I think I checked out MAYBE two books in my time there. I checked out more while in Germany, but their focus on the library was far more apparent and inherent in their system.

Blogging Etiquette?

So I did something yesterday. I left a comment on a blog of someone I don’t know at all. She’s on Julz’s friends list, so she’s good people and all, but to my knowledge, I’ve never met her. I’m not even certain she’s a her.

Is this kosher? One part of me says yes, as blogs are publicly viewable pieces of the internet for a reason. Another part says no; while it’s a publicly viewable piece, it’s still someone’s personal corner of the web, and intruding is rude (looking around is fine though).

We’ll see, I guess.

Reports Have Been Confirmed

Filed under: Friends — steegness @ 4:52 pm

To keep my journalistic integrity, I feel the need to say that the reports of engagement have been fully confirmed. There is in fact a marriage in the future. So everyone: don’t make plans for the future, because you might have a wedding of some kind to attend.

Unconfirmed Reports

Filed under: Friends — steegness @ 3:47 pm

So I have heard from one reliable source that two of my good friends got engaged over the weekend. While I believe him, I’d still like to hear it from another source as verification (maybe, I don’t know on the blog one of the involved parties has?).

If I can blog about watching The Waterboy, this news is certainly worthy blog-fodder.
